You’ll find me happiest in the mountains.
This is me, taking a break from running the Alta Via 2 Dolomites High Traverse, Italy, 2019.
As an athlete, I’ve competed in Ironman triathlon, qualified as a ski instructor, cycled Land’s End to John O’Groats, and completed 92 ultra-marathons around the world, in races and challenges such as UTMB, Northern Traverse, CCC, Eiger, and the Bob Graham Round. I also competed in the London Marathon, in a time of 2:47 (age 44). This year I’ve already got a few ultras under the belt (Spring 2026), with UTMB OCC in August to look forward to. In addition to racing, I’ve provided my services to help crew elite ultra runners on races such as Tor Des Geants, UTMB, and CCC.
Professionally, I am a researcher first and physiologist/nutritionist second. Throughout my work, I seek to find ways to improve performance in ultra-endurance sports, researching in the lab and the field and putting into practice with elite athletes.
I’ve worked as a university academic for 26 years. This has provided me with the skills to take complex science and data and present them in a way that athletes can understand; allowing for personal growth, confidence, and behavior change through the development of knowledge and experience.
Paul.
